Spring is in full effect here on the East Coast and while some spots are still hike worthy, for the most part, the majority of us have put the boards away for the season. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t dream…
Excuse me as I go back to sleep.
A good friend forwarded this insanely sick video edit of Tim Humphreys with a hand held GoPro. According to Snowboard Magazine, Humphreys was off for two months rehabilitating from a separated sternum clavicle joint prior to shooting this.
It is quite possibly the single best edit I have seen all year.
Costica Bradatan, featured above, is an associate professor in the Honors College at Texas Tech University. According to his bio from the university, “Bradatan’s areas of expertise and teaching include history of philosophy, philosophy of religion, philosophy of literature and philosophy of film.”
In the video, which I came across from Andrew Sullivan’s website The Dish, Dr. Bradatan presents his meditations on the essentiality of failure.
I have always been of the opinion that this concept, the understanding of the necessities of failure, has always been the essential lesson in snowboarding…especially in the area of youth development. Without failure, there can be no growth. In other words, as Dr. Bradatan states, failure establishes the gap of “what we are” from “what we can be.”
In snowboarding, we have a term for this. We call it “progression.”
If you follow and interact with Burton Snowboards through any of its social media outlets, then you have been in contact with Luis Calderin. Luis is Burton’s Social Media Manager and also a mega dope DJ. But you don’t have to take my word for it. Check out his newly released “Stay Awesome Vol 3″ mixtape.
In Jay-Z’esque fashion, Luis mixed and recorded Vol 3 in a single take and the result is straight perfection. Do yourself a favor, listen and download it here…oh yeah, it’s FREE too.
Don’t get much better.
For more on DJ Luis Calderin, and to experience both Stay Awesome Vol 1 and 2, check out his website http://www.djluiscalderin.com.
Bonus Track: For a dose of Monday riddims, check out his also freshly dropped First Edition Reggae Mix.
You’re welcome.
